I'll admit I groaned the first time a shared project got sabotaged and my whole table had to eat the penalty. That risk is exactly what keeps this expansion hitting the table — plus the two new Wonders give you fresh build paths to try.
The communal projects add a nice tension since you can't just hoard resources in your own city anymore. The two new Wonders fit right in with the base game and don't feel tacked on at all.
Our group usually ignores shared side boards, but the communal projects here actually made everyone pay attention to what the table was doing. Losing a project stings in a good way, and the two new wonders add some fun decisions.
